So Fresh and So Clean

So, I know the soap looks moldy, but what you actually see is sage combined into this tea tree oil soap bar. I got it from Mississippi Moon Naturals, a farm in IL. I was stumbling (I love StumbleUpon and happened to come upon this site, called Local Harvest. This site is great because you can check out where all the local farms, Farmers Markets, etc are located around your area and the whole U.S. It's an easier way for you to support local farms and it gives you great organic choices.

The Stoning of Soraya M.

This movie is so frustrating to watch, especially for the female audience. It definitely stirs up all these emotions inside you about how the women are treated in this movie, which is sadly based on a true story. It reminds me of how lucky I am to be in a place where females are treated more equal, even though we still have lots of existing sexism and we definitely need to fight on! This movie makes me sad because of how certain societies use religion to manipulate others just to cater to a few ugly individuals. Please watch this, and it's on instant watch on Netflix!

Side Note: I can't help but notice the beautiful hair that Middle Eastern ladies have.

MARSHMALLOW

This makes me wish I was a Marshmallow fanatic. 240 Sweet carries yummy flavors such as chocolate chip and dark chocolate to crazy flavors like beef as well as bacon maple and toffee.

Cheesy Xmas Photo

So, originally, I wanted Paolo and I to be in really ugly Christmas sweaters and take cheesy family style portraits to send for the holidays. Sadly, we both do not own any sweaters like that so we had to settle for the colors: red and green. I did this last minute in our room with 2 shitty lamps. Enjoy!

Geminid Meteor Shower

Was able to catch some shooting stars after work. Woot!

Paolo asked me some things that made me wonder about how exactly meteor showers worked, so of course I had to find the best source on the interweb, which is Wikipedia! ha!

Black Hole

Gary Panter, he's an amazing commercial artist who also created the characters, Jimbo, in his comic book, Jimbo, Adventures in Paradise. If you watched Pee Wee's Playhouse when you were a kid, then you would be familiar with his set designs for that show. I had the pleasure of getting a luncheon with him with a group of my buddies when he came to Indiana University for a lecture in 2009. He's hilarious and I sadly did not have a book for him to sign, I should of totally brought my sketchbook because he drew, Jimbo, on someone else's. He also had worked with Charles Burns, and commented that he is one of the best inkers in the comic world. I got excited to hear this because I love Charles Burns' graphic novel, Black Hole.
Black Hole has beautifully inked illustrations and the graphic novel's context is very grotesque and interesting. It's basically about a town with a crazy type of std epidemic among the teenagers. I recommend you to try reading it and you probably don't know it, but you love comics. I got so many friends into reading comics or back into reading comics, it's definitely not a medium only for kids.

Screaming Females

Marissa is a lil cutie.

If you like to read...

READ THIS!
Jeffrey Eugenides is also the author for The Virgin Suicides. Another amazing book. Middlesex has so many layers of history involved, from Cal's (the protagonist) grandparents story in Asia Minor, to his/her parents in America, and to the modern century in Detroit, MI. This book contains family secrets, secrets that build up and result in an interesting topic about hermaphrodites. Most people are turned off when I tell them this book is about a hermaphrodite, but it is so much more than that. I also learned some things about the Greek culture, which is great because I got a different perspective besides what the history textbooks gave us. It felt more human and not just about the usual war heroes, statues, and politics.

Green Tea Incense

Go ahead, say it with your teeth together, "Green Tea Incense." This was discovered by the lovely ladies, Lilly and Brody. Ah, college freshman year memories. I secretly burnt some today while listening to Weezer, that's right, I was in the mood for 90's. Don't judge me! Anyway, besides nag champa, this is one of my top choices of incense. It's settle, so it's not invasive at all to the nose. Burn it up!

Bee Orb Pendant

I made this necklace from recycled materials in my house. Yes, that is a bee, I found it already dead and I put resin on it to preserve it. People frequently stop me to ask about the necklace, and they either are disgusted or amazed by the little buddy in there.

Bored? Got it.

I use to spray paint stencils onto shirts, but I found this method to be fun too, and definitely more permanent.

Tip: Use hairspray to stick the stencil onto the shirt.
Another reminder: Make sure the spray bottle isn't drippy, it could really fuck up a lot of things for ya. I learned the hard way. (Sorry Mary Beth!)

I made this shirt trying the bleaching method my first time and thought it turned out very well. :-)

Homemade Lip Balm for the Smoochers

While drinking jasmine green tea with a spoonful of honey. I had a sudden desire to make some homemade lip balm out of honey. So this is going on my future to do list:

*Put beeswax and olive oil in ziploc bag and melt in boiling water.
2 Teaspoons of beeswax granules
7 Teaspoons of olive oil

*Mix in these other items.
1 Vit E capsule
1 Teaspoon of Honey
6 drops of Essential Oils- I want to use peppermint or vanilla

*Cut corner and pipe into lip balm container

Farmer's Market

I decided last Sunday to check out the downtown Farmer's Market in SD. It was great, reminded me of a compact version of Bloomington's. I think this might be my every Sunday adventure, especially if I get the small booth to sell my artwork (cross my fingers).

Peace Pizza: vegan, happy, and yummy

I also got this scarf, which I shouldn't have bought. Shut up.

HIKING IN TUCSON = FUN SPIKEY THINGS

Barnaby Furnas

Working at the Friends of Art Bookshop allowed me to check out some of the sweetest books such as Barnaby Furnas. I remember the first time seeing this book on the new arrival shelf and pouring over the paintings. From then on, I would be browsing this book constantly. I talked about how sweet it was so much that for my going away present, Bennis got it for me! One of the best presents ever.

I THINK KURT VONNEGUT MIGHT BE ONE OF MY FAVE AUTHORS OUT THERE...

MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY
"That's the end of good news about anything. Our Planet's immune system is trying to get rid of people. This is sure the way to do that."

"Here's the news: I am going to sue the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, manufacturers of Pall Mall cigarettes, for a billion bucks! Starting when I was only twelve years old, I have never chain-smoked anything but unfiltered Pall Malls. And for many years now, right on the package, Brown and Williamson have promised to kill me.
But I am now eighty-two. Thanks a lot, you dirty rats. The last thing I ever wanted was to be alive when the three most powerful people on the whole planet would be named Bush, Dick and Colon."

KOYAANISQATSI

In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means 'crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living.

This movie is part of a trilogy, I'm very interested to see the other two: Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi. Makes you contemplate the natural environment and the technological environment, old and modern ways of life, and relationships between human with nature and technology.

Breakfast of Champions

Words of Kurt Vonnegut

"Patty Keene was stupid on purpose, which was the case with most women in Midland City. The women all had big minds because they were big animals, but they did not use them much for this reason: unusual ideas could make enemies, and the women, if they were going to achieve any sort of comfort and safety, needed all the friends they could get. So, in the interests of survival, they trained themselves to be agreeing machines instead of thinking machines. All their minds had to do was to discover what other people were thinking, and then they thought that, too."

"Like everybody else in the cocktail lounge, he was softening his brain with alcohol. This was a substance produced by a tiny creature called yeast. Yeast organisms ate sugar and excreted alcohol. They killed themselves by destroying their own environment with yeast shit."

"Kilgore Trout once wrote a short story which was a dialogue between two pieces of yeast. They were discussing the possible purposes of life as they ate sugar and suffocated in their own excrement. Because their limited intelligence, they never came close to guessing that they were making champagne."
